Bundoran Too Strong for Glenfin

A strong second half performance from the Bundoran lads was enough to see off a Glenfin team who fought back until the dying minutes of the game. It was Adam Coyne who opened the scoring for the home side after 2 minutes showing well for the ball and pointing with his left foot. Strong winds saw a number of poor misses by both sides and the next score didn’t come until the 10th minute after Shane Moohan won a breaking ball around the middle and fed it off to James Keaney who took his point well. Glenfin didn’t get on the score sheet until the 12th minute but Bundoran could only reply once to Glenfins next 4 scores. It wasn’t until the end of the first half that Bundoran got on the scoreboard again after a Christy Keaney point on the 29th minute left the Half time Score Bundoran 0-4 Glenfin 0-5.

The Second Half continued to be a scrappy affair and took almost 8 minutes for the next score to come with Christy Keaney pointing an excellent 40-yard free off the ground leaving the game level. The game had been hard hitting throughout with a lot of off the ball incidents but it wasn’t until the 40th minute after a tussle in front of the Bundoran goal mouth referee Connie Doherty decided to put an end to the fighting calling over both team captains and warning that anymore incidents would result in the game being stopped. When the game restarted it was James Keaney who won the ball in his own half and broke through setting Adam Coyne up for his second point.  Although Glenfin couldn’t register on the scoreboard in the second half they had a lot of chances but some poor efforts denied them any chance of beating a determined Bundoran side. It was James Keaney who got the next score after Peter McGonigle made an excellent catch in the middle of the park setting James through to leave Bundoran leading by two. The only red card of the game came after Glenfins full back picked up his second yellow card after a high challenge on Adam Coyne. The dying minutes saw a fight back from a 14 man Glenfin but some great defending and hard work saw Bundoran turnover the ball and a well worked move out of defence set Michael McEniff running through on goal but Michael kept a cool head and slotted over the bar knowing a point was enough to win the game. Bundoran 0-8 Glenfin 0-5 an excellent second half performance from Bundoran with all players stepping up to the mark to get there season off to the start they needed.
